Contributions That Serve Us All

Recently IMCNE created an award to honor an individual who has contributed over the years to our chapter in a way that has substantially benefited us. The concept was inspired by longtime IMCer Alan Weiss (CMC) who has donated his time, ideas, energy and self once each year in the form of a workshop for new and veteran consultants alike. Alan never even asks us to reimburse him for his drive up from Rhode Island (Maybe I shouldn’t be giving him any ideas!) and because of his many years of hard-earned branding, always fills up the room, setting attendance records and thus helping us beef up our frequently precarious coffers.

So this year we honored Alan with our first-ever IMCNE Lifetime Contribution Award. It’s a small token of our appreciation but a sincere one and long overdue. And it’s now installed on our web page as a permanent feature at http://www.imcne.org/life_award.html.

Always, there are many candidates for such an award within our IMCNE ranks, so many in fact that I don’t dare to start flinging out names for fear I’d surely forget a few. Contributions from such members and affiliates have been outstanding and this chapter literally couldn’t exist without their efforts. Two who served on this past year’s Board, however, deserve special mention as they have had to leave us due to increasingly busy client loads (an acceptable excuse!): Sharon Gazda helped us brainstorm and implement many a new initiative and Marisa D’Vari’s expertise in PR got and kept IMCNE in the news and on the business calendar pages throughout the year. Thanks so much Sharon and Marisa, we appreciate all you’ve done.

As for the rest of us IMCNE volunteers, we swing into action on July 20 at our yearly Chapter Retreat, at a secluded location in Southborough. But it’s not exclusive! Whether you are an IMCNE member or affiliate (or not), you are invited to join us and help us review our chapter’s scorecard of the past year, then consider new directions for 2004-2005.

While this may seem like a contribution geared only to our chapter and not particularly applicable to our individual practices, time spent that day in fact often helps participants clarify their own professional issues and goals as well. Since our mission at IMCNE is to "serve the New England consulting community," when we get together and figure out what these needs are, we each stand a good chance of being better served by this process for our own personal needs. That equals win-win-win for all concerned.

So come on out to Southborough on July 20 where the free food will be delectable and the interaction with your colleagues spectacular! No charge to attend, just bring your brain and energy. If you haven’t registered yet, click now to do so: http://www.imcne.org/events/2004/summer04.html.

I look forward to seeing you there and contributing alongside you, for IMCNE and for our mutual consulting lives. Each piece after all can’t exist without the other.
