Course Description: In this session you will learn where the market is going and what you can do to increase your odds of success. Specifically the topics include:

• A quick summary of practices and pitfalls of starting your own consulting business.
• Where is this market going?
• How and what you can learn from other's practices
• Practical planning steps for moving forward - leveraging what you have to stand out

Pre-Session Assignment: Be prepared to discuss what steps you took at the start your consulting practice and since to improve your success. What worked for you, what didn't and why?

Facilitator: Geoffrey Day, President, The Consulting Exchange

The Consulting Exchange (CX) is a consulting search and referral service founded in 1982. As President of the Consulting Exchange in 1990, Geoffrey Day has satisfied New England based business' demands for independent consultants with specialized technical and management expertise

As part of his responsibilities Geof has helped conceptualize and design research to investigate the attitudes and opinions of top managers on their use of consultants. He has facilitated discussions of this unique research to audiences nationally including the Institute of Management Consultants and the Small Business Innovation Research Conference in Washington DC. The findings of this research have been published in a report entitled "Management Views on Consulting".

Additionally, he helps coach area adult-ed courses and start up businesses on the subject of starting your own small business. He has a unique perspective of the consulting industry from both sides and knows what it takes to better your odds of being a successful consultant.
