Our Panelists

Jack DerbyJack Derby, President of Derby Management (www.derbymanagement.com)

Since founding Derby Management in 1990, Jack has helped approximately 350 clients with his firm’s three core competencies:

1. Business Planning Coaching - Providing entrepreneurs with extensive strategic and tactical skills resulting in the creation of operating business plans.

2. Sales and Marketing Coaching – Providing detailed hands-on tactical plans in sales channels analysis, objectives and quota assignments, forecasting, compensation planning and actionable events to accomplish their strategic operating plans.

3. Senior Management Coaching – Providing coaching to senior managers in the skills of management development both internally and externally with directors, mentoring capabilities, conflict resolution skills and continuous guidance in other management skills necessary to create successful CEO’s.

Always active in the New England entrepreneurial community, Jack has been quoted in many publications including the WSJ, the BBJ, the Globe, the Hearld and Mass High Tech. He has been an active Board Member in many organizations some of which are the MIT Enterprise Forum, SBANE, The Association for Corporate Growth, The Associated Industries of Massachusetts and as a Director at Brainshark, Hybricon and Beacon Hospice.

Prior to forming Derby Management in 1990, Jack held positions as CEO of Mayer Electronics Corporation, President of CB Sports, President of Litton Industries Medical Systems, CEO of Datamedix Corporation and President of Becton Dickinson Medical Systems.

Nick MillerNick Miller, President of Clarity Advantage (www.clarityadvantage.com)

Nick took his 14 years of helping financial services, technology, and professional services firms increase new business acquisition, referral volume, cross selling, and revenue and founded Clarity Advantage Corporation in 1991. Clarity helps commercial banks attract, cross sell, and retain small business customers faster and more effectively through differentiated sales process and focused sales management. Building on early-career experiences, he and his brand have become well known in the banking industry with such clients as Fleet Bank, Wachovia Bank, Scotiabank, First Citizens Bank, SouthTrust Bank, and National City Bank. To win this business he was competing against firms five to ten-times his size, or larger. A testament to his success is that he has been bioed in Alan Weiss’ book The Ultimate Consultant describing how he grew his business into a million dollar consulting practice.

But he’ll freely admit he nearly went broke as he experimented with three different Clarity business models, until he final ly landed on his current model eight years ago. Thus he’s highly qualified to share what has worked and the mistakes he'd love to not repeat in this lifetime.

Also an active writer he has been published or quoted in Lending for the Commercial Banker; Bank Loan Officer’s Report; Boston Business Journal; American Banker; Sales and Marketing Management Magazine; Banking Strategies; The Commercial Lending Journal; and Journal of Commercial Bank Lending.
